The completion of UF Health Durbin Park’s initial phase marks a significant expansion in medical service accessibility for Northeast Florida. Supported by the construction firm Stellar, this major health and wellness campus spans 42.5 acres in St. Johns County, aiming to address the needs of the growing population in the region.
This first phase of development features a three-story, 72,000-square-foot medical office building and a five-story, 220,000-square-foot hospital, both integral to the community in Durbin Park. The medical office building consolidates a wide array of specialty services, including general surgery, gynecology, heart and vascular care, laboratory services, neurology, orthopedics, outpatient rehabilitation, pain management, and urology. Stellar played a crucial role as the primary construction manager, with Gresham Smith overseeing the design process.
Adjacent to the medical office building, UF Health Durbin Park Hospital offers extensive facilities, including 99 inpatient beds and a 24-hour emergency department. The hospital is equipped to provide acute and intensive care, emergency services, operating rooms, advanced imaging, and hybrid laboratories for interventional procedures. Stellar’s involvement extended to project management through a joint venture with Batson-Cook Construction.
In addition to the core medical facilities, Stellar also managed the construction of a standalone central energy plant, vital for the campus’s infrastructure. This development is part of a broader $1 billion investment by UF Health in Durbin Park, projected to create approximately 2,000 jobs and further enhance healthcare services in St. Johns County and Jacksonville.
