The United States has resumed military operations against Iranian targets, ending a short-lived pause and heightening fears of a broader conflict in the Middle East. This development comes in retaliation to Iran’s recent strike on a U.S. military base in Jordan, which houses American troops. President Donald Trump had previously cautioned Tehran that the U.S. would respond vigorously to any aggression.
According to reports from U.S. Central Command, American forces conducted a series of strikes over a two-hour period. The targeted sites were linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps and included military command centers, facilities for missiles and drones, and coastal defense and surveillance installations. The strikes reportedly caused explosions on Qeshm Island near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, as well as in Iran’s Khuzestan province. State media indicated that at least two individuals were injured due to these attacks.
This renewed military action follows earlier U.S. strikes on Iran-backed militias in Iraq, which resulted in the deaths of multiple fighters and Iranian advisers. The escalation has raised alarms about the potential for the conflict to widen across the region, especially as diplomatic efforts to restart negotiations between Washington and Tehran remain at an impasse.
The situation has also influenced global energy markets, with Brent crude oil prices surging by more than 7%. This spike reflects concerns about possible disruptions to oil supplies through key shipping routes in the Middle East, further underscoring the global impact of the mounting tensions.
